I can't say that anyone on earth knows what it's like to build a factory on an alien planet. With the exception of the countless alien species that inhabit our world in secret. And of course the hard working men and women over at Coffee Stain Studios. Earlier this week at E3 2018 Coffee Stain Studios unveiled a new trailer for their newest space fairing adventure.
Satisfactory unlike many other space age games is all about building and maintaining a factory on an alien world. That's what makes the name so funny (because it's a pun.... Get it?). In Satisfactory you fill the role of a FICSIT Incorporated employee, indoctrinated into the "Save The Day Program".
It's your job to construct and automate your very own factory, in hopes that you contribute to "Project Assembly" (which sounds super shady). But that's not your only task, you also must explore and exploit your new world as well. As if taking over an already inhabited planet and hastily building a factory there wasn't enough. But of course FICSIT Incorporated doesn't expect you to accomplish this great feat by yourself, you can also bring several friends along for the ride.
I can't say that Satisfactory immediately grabbed me when I saw the trailer. I'm one of the few people on earth that doesn't jump at the chance to play a new pseudo survival game. But after visiting Satisfactory's steam page I was more than sold on the idea. Not because of it's art style or the catchy music. But because of its description. Most of Satisfactory's contemporaries use this space to boast about their player count, or the amount of unique species in the game. But Coffee Stain Studios instead took that space and filled it with so much personality and humor, that I had no choice but to love it.
The one somber note that I have for Satisfactory is it's art style. I'm afraid that because of it's similarities to No Man's Sky, that people might write it off. So I urge anyone reading this to click here and check out the aforementioned Steam page. This should clear up any lingering NMS vibes, even though I personally loved it.
